Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module will provide students with the chance to experience a real work environment before they graduate and to acquire the skills they need to achieve their long-term career goals. The placement programme offers the opportunity to develop contacts within the business, industrial, public and professional sectors which may be used for subsequent Research Thesis collaboration or future work. Importantly, industrial placement will help students to develop the skills they will need throughout their career, e.g., communication, problem-solving, teamwork, organisational awareness and ICT skills. Student placement should also help them to make decisions about their future career.

Syllabus:

Practical experience in the application of concepts and skills learned in lectures, labs and reading in Sport Performance. Assessment of fitness levels including physiological and biomechanical analysis and nutritional status; monitoring of performance through notational analysis; long term and short term planning of strength and conditioning programmes and implementation of strength and conditioning programmes; on-going evaluation of these programmes and their effects.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

Demonstrate an understanding of the key principles associated with strength and conditioning practice, applied biomechanics, applied human physiology, sport nutrition or video performance analysis, as related to your placement discipline. Integrate all relevant skills and knowledge already acquired in the degree programme with the tasks set for you in this placement.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

Display an awareness of sport-specific health & safety in a professional manner.

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

Demonstrate proficiency in relevant laboratory and field skills and techniques in measurement of endurance performance using biomechanical, nutritional, and physiological techniques. Execute short-term performance analysis tests and intervention on athletes and players, as related to your placement.
